Why people choose the 15 yard

Roofing is where this size earns its living in Mesa, with one large caveat. Roofs are sized by squares and layers, never by the footprint of the house, and a square is a hundred square feet of roof surface. Stripped asphalt shingle runs about 250 pounds a square, so a single-layer shingle tear-off up to roughly twenty squares fits a 15 and stays under payload. A bathroom is a tub, tile with its thinset bed, a vanity, subfloor and drywall, and it is denser than it looks because of the tile and the fixtures. A kitchen refresh is cabinetry, countertop, appliance boxes, flooring and drywall, which is bulkier and lighter. Either one fits a 15 with room to work. The Mesa specific to plan around is the floor you are standing on. Houses here are post-tension slab-on-grade, and a post-tension slab must not be cut, cored or drilled without a scan first, because the tendons are under load — that decides whether you can move a drain or a floor outlet at all, and it turns up on nearly every interior job. Will it fit?

Sixteen feet of box wants about 60 feet of straight approach, roughly 10 and a half feet of width and 20 feet or more of overhead clearance so the hoist can stand the container up. In the 1990s and 2000s subdivisions out east that is usually a straightforward set on a two-car drive; on the 1950s and 60s lots, measure first. The obstruction to check is overhead: a palm frond canopy or a mesquite limb over the drive stops more sets here than anything else, and behind those come carport framing, shade sails and service drops. The four-foot side is the selling point for hand loading, and for roofing it lets a crew shovel from a ladder set rather than pitch high. Protection boards are standard, and from May through September, when an asphalt drive goes soft, they are the whole job — a loaded box will take an impression otherwise.
