Junk Removal and Garage Cleanouts in Mesa, AZ
A container in the drive or a crew that loads it, whichever suits the job. Garages, Arizona rooms, carports, side yards and sheds cleared across Mesa, with the paint shelf routed to the city HHM facility rather than the box.
Mesa houses are post-tension slab-on-grade. There is nothing under the floor at all, so a junk removal job here has a different shape than the ones described in guides written for other parts of the country. All of the volume sits in the garage, and after that the attic above it, the Arizona room, the carport, the side yard and the shed out back. Count those five spaces and you have counted the job. Our Mesa home cleanout checklist works the same order we do, with the chemical shelf pulled out on its own before anything else moves.
You have two ways to get it out. A container sits in the drive and you load it over several days, which suits a slow sort where every bin has to be opened and argued over. Crew hauling is faster when the material is heavy, awkward or already sorted, or when a closing date is bearing down. Plenty of Mesa jobs use both, with a 20 yard box in the driveway for the bulk and two men for the safe, the workbench and the treadmill nobody wants to carry down the hallway.
Heat sets the daily clock. From May through September a garage or an attic is unworkable by mid-morning, so we deliver the evening before and crews start at first light. That is also why the busy season here runs backwards from most places: October through April is when people can actually work outside, and January and February are the months most Mesa cleanouts finally get finished. Check the Mesa size guide before you ring so the box is right the first time.
What Actually Comes Out Of A Mesa Garage
Garage Clear-Out
The garage is where a Mesa cleanout lives, because nothing is stored below the floor. Shelving, bikes, tools, camping gear, holiday boxes and the paint shelf that has to be routed somewhere else.
Arizona Room And Patio
Enclosed patios and Arizona rooms become the overflow room. Rattan furniture gone brittle in the sun, faded cushions, filing boxes and exercise equipment that has not moved in a decade.
Carport And Side Yard
On the block ranches around Dreamland Villa and Velda Rose the carport and the narrow side yard hold the mower, ladders, terracotta pots, spare pavers and a stack of leftover roof tile.
Storage Shed Emptying
A metal shed in a Mesa back yard runs well past 140 degrees in July. Plastic bins go chalky, hoses crack, fertiliser cakes solid, and the shed panels often leave with the contents.
Attic Above The Garage
The only overhead storage a slab house has. Photographs, cassette tape, cardboard and vinyl stored up there are usually already ruined, and the work has to be done before the sun is properly up.
Furniture And Mattresses
Sofas, sectionals, bed frames and particleboard bedroom sets. Mesa bulk collection will take furniture and mattresses by appointment, but a whole house of it moves faster in one container.
Appliance Removal
Refrigerators, freezers, evaporative coolers and water heaters. Mesa bulk collection refuses appliances outright, and refrigerant has to be recovered by a certified technician before disposal.
Storage Unit Emptying
A rented unit off Country Club or Power Road is a cleanout with a clock attached. We stage a container at the house and the sort happens in one pass instead of six weekend trips.
Sizing A Junk Removal Container In Mesa
Most Mesa junk jobs land on a 15 yard or a 20 yard. Household junk is bulky and light, so you run out of space long before you run out of weight, and a two-car garage packed to the door will fill a 15 on its own. Take the 20 when the garage, the Arizona room, the carport and the shed all go in the same week, which is the usual pattern once somebody finally commits. A 10 yard suits one room, a single shed, or a tight lot in Eastmark or Cadence where a longer box will not sit square between the property wall and the garage. Tell us how many spaces you are clearing and whether the furniture is going in. That answers the size question faster than square footage.

The garage chemical shelf stops more cleanouts than anything else, so deal with it first. Paint, solvents, motor oil, fuel, pool and garden chemicals, pesticides, propane cylinders, tires, lead-acid batteries and electronics all stay out of the container. Mesa runs a permanent drive-through Household Hazardous Materials facility at 2412 N Center St, Bldg 2, open Wednesday to Saturday from 7:00am to 2:00pm, no appointment, Mesa residents only with proof of residency, and business waste is not accepted. Note that PaintCare does not operate in Arizona, so the national advice you will find elsewhere does not apply here. Confirm current hours and accepted items through the City of Mesa before you drive over. We cannot take asbestos-containing material in any container, ever. Yard debris rides separately through yard waste removal.

Junk Removal Dumpsters FAQs
Should I rent a container or have a crew haul it away?
It depends on how much sorting is left. If every bin has to be opened and decided on, a container in the driveway gives you several days to work at your own pace, and that is the cheaper way to handle a slow garage and attic sort. If the material is heavy, awkward or already sorted, or a closing date is fixed, a crew is faster. A lot of Mesa jobs use both, with a box in the drive for the bulk and two men for the safe, the workbench and the exercise equipment. Ring the yard and describe the spaces and we will tell you which way is sensible.
Why is there so much in the garage compared with other markets?
Because there is nothing under the house. Mesa is post-tension slab-on-grade and nothing at all sits under the floor, so every box, bin and seasonal item that would live on a lower level somewhere else ends up in the garage, the attic above it, the Arizona room, the carport or the shed. A national sizing guide written around a lower storage floor will oversize your container badly. Count the outbuildings and the enclosed patio instead of counting bedrooms, and the estimate comes out much closer.
What do I do with the paint and chemicals in the garage?
Set them aside before anything else moves. Paint, solvents, motor oil, fuel, pool and garden chemicals, pesticides, propane, tires, lead-acid batteries and electronics cannot go in a roll-off. Mesa runs a drive-through Household Hazardous Materials facility at 2412 N Center St, Bldg 2, Wednesday to Saturday 7:00am to 2:00pm, with no appointment and one visit per household per day. It is for Mesa residents only and takes no business waste. PaintCare does not operate in Arizona, so ignore any advice pointing you to a paint retailer drop-off.
Can I just use the city bulk collection instead?
For some of it. Mesa bulk pickup is appointment-based and paid, and it does take furniture, mattresses, carpet, exercise machines, televisions, toilets, palm fronds and boxed cacti. What it will not take is appliances, construction or home remodelling material, tires, hazardous waste and anything over 60 lbs. That exclusion list is most of what comes out of a real cleanout, which is why a container usually ends up being the simpler answer. Check current details with the city before you book either one.
When is the best time of year to do a cleanout in Mesa?
October through April. From May to September a garage or an attic is genuinely dangerous work past about nine in the morning, and crews drop to half speed in the heat. Winter is the busy season here, which is backwards from most of the country, so January through March books up. If the job has to happen in summer we deliver the container the evening before and start at first light. Give us a few days notice in the winter months and we will hold a morning slot for you.
